Unique battery Cathode Technology

NCM and LFP are the two most used cathode materials for vehicle application nowadays

Batteries that use LFP as cathode material have long life cycle life, good thermal stability, and enhanced safety and tolerance. Whereas, because the energy density of LFP battery is much lower than that of NCM battery, it is mostly used for EV buses rather than passenger EVs.

Compared with LFP, NCM cathode material features higher specific power because of its higher lithium diffusion rate and electron mobility. Therefore, battery using NCM material has higher energy density, enabling a longer driving range per charge for EVs. Nevertheless, if the amount of nickel in NCM material is over 60%, the battery cannot pass the needle penetration test, and potential risk may happen to threaten the safety of passengers. Besides, the life cycle of NCM based battery is not long enough and the cost is high, those are barriers for battery electric vehicle to receive popularity compared with conventional diesel or gasoline vehicles

Hi-Capacity Cathode

LionNova’s R&D team has developed LFMP based cathode material that can achieve the benefits of LFP and NCM materials and mitigate the disadvantage of the two materials. Our first generation LFMP cathode material can increase voltage of LFP by at least 30% and energy density by at least 20%, while maintain the same cycle life.

Our second-generation product, LFMP-NCM cathode material, is a further improvement of the first-generation product, with Even higher energy density, better stability, enhanced safety etc.
